A Customs office placed my carnet on hold. What should I do?

Modified on Fri, 9 Oct at 12:03 PM

If Customs places a carnet on hold, no action is normally required from the holder unless requested by Customs.

A hold simply means that Customs wishes to complete additional checks or procedures before allowing the movement to proceed.

Can I continue using my carnet?

Not within the customs territory where the hold has been applied.

The hold prevents further transactions in that customs territory until Customs releases it.

Should I prepare a new travel?

No.

A hold does not normally require a new travel declaration or new QR codes. Customs can continue processing the existing transaction when the hold is released.

Who can remove the hold?

Only Customs can release a hold. If you require information about the reason for the hold or its status, contact the Customs office that applied it.
