What is the digital transaction receipt?

Modified on Mon, 12 Oct at 12:09 PM

The digital transaction receipt is an electronic record generated by the ATA Carnet System whenever a Customs transaction is committed.

A receipt is automatically created for transactions such as:

  • Validation
  • Exportation
  • Importation
  • Re-exportation
  • Re-importation
  • Transit

The receipt provides evidence that the transaction was recorded in the ATA Carnet System and contains the key information associated with that Customs operation.

What information does the receipt contain?

Depending on the transaction type, the receipt may include:

  • Carnet details
  • Transaction type
  • Customs office information
  • Date and time of commitment
  • Holder and representative information
  • Goods covered by the transaction
  • Customs references and remarks
  • Transaction status information

The format is designed to provide a clear summary of the Customs transaction and follows a structure similar to the traditional ATA Carnet counterfoil.

How do I receive the receipt?

After a transaction is committed:

  • A digital receipt is automatically generated.
  • A copy is automatically sent to the holder by email.
  • Customs officers may also print a receipt directly from ATA Carnet Customs where required.

Does the receipt replace the ATA Carnet record?

No.

The receipt is a record of a transaction, but the official transaction history remains stored in the ATA Carnet System.

Users can also consult the transaction history in ATA Carnet App and ATA Carnet Desktop.

Can I use the receipt as proof that a transaction was completed?

The digital receipt provides evidence that a transaction was committed in the ATA Carnet System and may be useful for record-keeping and operational follow-up.

However, acceptance of the receipt as supporting evidence remains subject to the requirements of the Customs authorities concerned and applicable ATA Carnet procedures.

In particular:

  • Some Customs administrations may require additional evidence.
  • In countries or customs territories that continue to operate paper ATA Carnet procedures, Customs may require documents bearing official stamps, signatures or other forms of authentication.
  • A receipt printed by the holder should not automatically be assumed to have the same evidential value as a document officially issued, stamped or certified by Customs.

Where evidence of a transaction is required for a claim, dispute or Customs verification, Customs authorities, Issuing Associations and Guaranteeing Associations may refer to the official transaction record stored in the ATA Carnet System, together with any supporting documentation required under applicable procedures.

What should I do if I cannot find my receipt?

Check:

  1. The email address associated with your ATA Carnet account.
  2. Your spam or junk mail folder.
  3. The transaction history in ATA Carnet App or ATA Carnet Desktop.

If the transaction appears in the system history but no receipt was received, contact your Issuing Association or ATA Carnet support.
